Bruce Burton MD, Family Practice/Geriatric Medicine
Bruce Burton, M.D.

I was born and raised in Woodville, Texas, a small rural town in the piney woods of southeast Texas.  My father was a general practice doctor and my mother was a homemaker.

I left Woodville to go to Baylor University, and graduated from there with a Bachelor of Arts.  Next I attended medical school at the University of Texas, Southwestern, in Dallas.  After medical school I completed my Family Practice residency at the University of Louisville.  I have since been in solo private practice in Corydon.  While in practice, I have added to my resume a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatric Medicine.  Though I continue to see patients of all ages, I have additional expertise in the problems associated with aging.

Outside of my office practice, I have been involved in community oriented medical activities.  For years I have enjoyed being the Corydon High School Football team physician.  I have also been active also in public health, first with the Maternal-Child Health Clinic of the Public Health Department, and now as the medical director of the Family Health Center of Harrison County, a clinic established to help patients who have no insurance. I am currently serving on the Board of the Public Health Department of Harrison County.

My wife and I have lived in Corydon long enough to call it home.  Joan is an avid naturalist, and she loves her garden.  She also enjoys being with other like-minded persons in the Master Gardeners and in the Kentuckiana Herb Society.  Joan and I met while ethnic dancing and we continue dance both for fun and performance with the Louisville Ethnic Dancers.

Medicine is rapidly changing and keeping my practice current in the information age has been both challenging and frustrating.  I have enjoyed the ability to meet my patients in "the cloud" as well as on portable devices.  I like that my patients are much better informed.  I am often frustrated by the imposed requirements of documentation, time consuming activities which get in the way of simply being with my patients.

Despite the hassles, medicine is still fun for me.  Every day has a new twist.  I love the challenge of applying the science and the art of medicine to each situation that my patients bring.
